The Appliance Of Science

John blogs ...

With Bandu at the Industrial Technical Institute
Farewell to Senake and Ruki to meet at Lanka Hands for 9.30. Met by Ratna and then to vocational visit to ITI (Industrial Technical Institute). Driven by Handi. Met with J.K.A.Bandulasorna Wijegunaackera (shortened to Bandu) for informative tour. Jenny and Kath in their element regarding the science and the testing of materials. Moving premises soon which means nearby slum (Thara Watha) will be cleared and families relocated close to Colombo. A good thing. Lunch at the Chinese Dragon (Chinese again!)

Tranferred to new host Ari and Sunhilla. Ari is a National Field Officer for The Gideons International and knows his stuff very thoroughly. The Gideons is a Christian business and professional men’s association so it’s been a fascinating comparison between Ari and Senake. Met Ari’s wife Sushila who is active in Inner Wheel. Picked Sushila up from the Galle Face Hotel – an old colonial hotel, well worth the visit.

Exchanging banners with Muba, president of Colombo South
Evening Team Presentation at Rotary Club of Colombo South went pretty well with fellowship of whisky or wine followed by a meal of hoppers and curries. I discovered that the guest needs to eat first so that others may follow – I was chatting merrily and ‘marched’ towards the food so others could eat! Very sociable club and made many good friends, thanks.

Cheers from Colombo South
