Kalpitiya Beach and Lagoon

John blogs …

English breakfast choices again – thanks Ashanti – the girls looking a bit worse for their exertions from the night before, but nothing that a day at the beach won’t fix!

Outside Dolphin Beach Eco Resort, Kalpitiya
Left 9.45, arrived at Kalpitiya 12.15. Coastal palms and fishermens’ huts with dried palm leaf roofs line the route. Lunch at Dolphin Beach Eco Lodge (recommended location with clean and basic facilities) of freshly-caught crab with curries and yellow rice made for a tasty combination.

Ashanti and I stayed at the Green Dolphin whilst the girls, Jayantha, Suli and ‘Uncle’ scampered on board a boat and set off across the lagoon for a swim and sunbathe. Plenty of sunscreen applied and bottles of water taken as the heat of the sun is very deceptive. Lots of warnings from the locals to cover up.

A welcome snooze with cooling sea breezes and background cricket commentary to lull the senses … (Sri Lanka beating Canada by 210 runs)

Quicker than expected – only two hours later – the girls returned having had an enjoyable time sunbathing on a deserted beach, saying it was very hot.

Arrived home in the dark and in a sudden storm around 8.15, then dinner of tasty curries at 9.15 with a glass or two of red wine …
